Capsule Geology

The Saddle occurrence is marked by a number of large, intense gossans related to feldspar porphyry dikes emanating from a larger stock located to the south. The emplacement of the dikes has hornfelsed Upper Triassic Stuhini Group augite porphyritic flows producing disseminated and fracture-controlled pyrite. Sampling in 1988 by Continental Gold Corp yielded only weakly anomalous gold values. An examination of the area in 1990 by Gigi Resources, yielded one significant sample (32193) of 1.85 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21061). This sample was selected over a 30 centimetre width in two metres of epidote altered and silicified monzonite. The mineralization is comprised of 2 per cent chalcopyrite, and 10 per cent pyrite with malachite and chrysocolla staining. Remnant flagging indicates a number of previous samples at this location, including a sample taken by the government. The government sample assayed 1.49 grams per tonne gold, 0.51 per cent copper, and 4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 21061). Although the area is bounded by snow pack on three sides, outcrops peripheral to this location limit the potential size of this zone.
